F.A.Q's
What is the DJs experience?
Our 3 DJs have over 30 years combined experience in the business of entertaining people. That experience includes radio, the club industry, wedding receptions, private parties, fundraisers, etc.
Both will tailor the music to what is suitable for your event; will ask the age group of your guests and make sure they play something for everyone. We also have clean edits of all of the popular songs so you don’t have to worry about hearing inappropriate language. Shane and Mike will ensure that everything will go smoothly for you at the function so when you put the entertainment in their hands, you definitely will not have anything to worry about.
Do you take requests?
Most definitely! We encourage it. And we'll play them as soon as we can. That is one of the things we are known for. Also check out our new TEXT-A-QUEST feature where we can accept requests via text from your phone.
What about song selection?
We have 1000s of songs in a wide variety of genres and styles, truly something for everyone; from top 40 to country, traditional Newfoundland music to rock, classics to hip hop and everything in between. We also have the top 100 billboard hits from 1946 through to 2008, that's 6300 songs just right there.
In addition we have DJ only promo collections, and the top 1000 albums according to Rolling Stone Magazine. We are always adding to this massive library. It is an never-ending job that we take so much pride in doing. As for the actual selection count, the total at the moment is 2000,000 songs including over 2000 full length album, probably the biggest in the city, and that's just what we bring to the event, not counting the 1000s more at home, add that our vast knowledge of music and you have an incredible combination.
We bring a 1TB LaCie Big Disk Extreme professional hard drive full of music so choice isn’t an issue. A discussion between you and ourselves will include special songs you would like to hear as well as ones you don’t, or as we like to call it a "NO PLAY" list.
What equipment are you using?
We use professional equipment, no home stereo speakers here. We use a new piece of technology called the Numark D2 Director Mass Storage Player. It is a console that has a LCD screen and all the features of CD decks but in a more compact model. It’s a Linux based system so the stability is amazing. All you have to do is add in a mass storage device like an external hard drive and you’re complete, we'll be using a 1 TB LaCie Big Disk Extreme Professional hard drive. Next is the Denon DN-X500 4 Channel board, a professional grade mixer. The speakers we use are powered Yamaha speakers. In addition, we will have a backup system on site, which includes a laptop pc, an external Creative Sound Blaster 24-bit 5.1 sound card, so the show will go on no matter what. In addition, we will also have another external hard drive on site in case something was to happen to the main one.
Will there be a consultation?
Consultations are free of charge. They are a meeting between you and us so we can work out all the details of the entertainment you would like to have at your event. At a consultation you are welcomed to tell us about your choices in music, lighting, times and so on. It allows us to get to know your wants and needs in a more "relaxed" manner.
These consultations can be held in person at a location of your choice, over the phone, via email, Facebook, Skype or MSN, whatever is more convenient for you. We all lead such busy lives that sometimes its easier just to pop off an email, or chat on the phone and with Newfoundlanders and Labradorians living and working all over the globe these days, it is important that a service provider made every effort possible so that the distance doesn't pose an inconvenience for the prospective client.
Either way we want you to feel that its ok to contact us as much as you want to make sure we understand and accommodate your wishes and every request.
What will the DJ be wearing? What about the presentation of the equipment?
Our DJs will arrive clean shaven and dressed in business casual attire, meaning....NO JEANS or Athletic clothing or hats. We have black or white table clothes than we can bring, however if you want to customize this table with the colours of your wedding or party, feel free to do so.
Payment Options-Do you take credit cards? Cheques? Cash?
We accept payment via various convenient means such as cheques, money orders and now credit cards.
We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express (AMEX). There is no extra charge for paying by this method. This method is instant and you will have an automatic electronic and paper trail of our transaction for your piece of mind.
We also accept cheques made out to "2020 Entertainment".
What about Public Liability Insurance?
Yes we do carry Liability and can and will produce a copy of the coverage upon request by the venue operator. Although insurance here in Newfoundland is seldomly required before setting up, with increasing liability costs incurred by the operators, this will become a "MUST" have for any professional entertainment company.
A tip for anyone planning an event is to make sure that they understand the policy of the venue where you wish to hold your event on liability insurance.
Music in Numbers? & What does it mean?
In setting up 20/20 Entertainment DJ Services we’ve come across some pretty amazing numbers used to denote the number of songs that a DJ company may have. We’ve seen numbers ranging from 6000 to 20,000-often on the same website, and we too have tens of thousands of songs and access to 1000s more. These numbers really don’t mean a whole lot; they may denote a huge selection or bigger variety, however numbers only go so far. A DJ also needs to know his music and when it’s the best time to play what. The point is, if the DJ doesn't have a particular song that you are looking for then what's the difference beteen 2,000 or 200,000 songs?
Often times a DJ company will employ the use of laptops that make music retrieval a snap. Laptops or notebook PCs or MACs have had a huge impact on our industry. Besides the almost instant music retrieval, there is the benifit of saving space and making load in and out a little easier. However the drawbacks of such technology is that DJ’s can make a playlist that can be used from one event to another. Ask your DJ if the music he will play be tailored to your event or will it be from his usual list of songs that he plays at every event.
At 20/20 Entertainment we like to think that most people would like hire a DJ who is willing and able to reconize that every audience is unique and to use his professional skills to read the crowd at every event. Sure many songs are played from one event to another, it’s just the principal. By that logic, why not just burn off a handful of Mixed CDs and put them in a CD changer and let it go. We are not against laptops, we just feel that they are a tool for the dj to use to help himself or herself to do an even better job at entertaining at an event. Remember that the DJ should be the DJ, not the laptop.
People hire pro DJ companies such as 20/20 Entertainment because they want a DJ who picks and plays music for them and their guests, who can read the crowd and adjust accordingly and who knows their stuff. They pay for and EXPECT that courtesy.
